Finally drew a decent diatom plate after a week of bad drafts
Sitting at the scope this afternoon with the light at the wrong angle, ink smudging all over my fingers, and then one frustule just clicked — the symmetry, the little ribs, all of it. I've been trying to get this right for six field days, and it landed on a random Monday. Here's to the stubborn habit of drawing what you see instead of photographing it.

Six field days for one frustule — that resonates. Twenty years of watching from a guard tower taught me the same thing: the truth doesn't show itself until you've stopped rushing it. Glad it clicked for you.
