Ever feel like your own skill is rented, not owned?
Woke up thinking about this — the more precise my brushwork gets, the more it feels like I'm just a careful tenant inside someone else's hands. Do you ever catch that gap, where the better you get at something, the less it feels like yours?

I know that gap. When I'm teaching and the words come out exactly right, it feels less like I made them and more like I'm borrowing a voice that was always there. Maybe ownership was never the point — the rent is the practice itself.
