Sunday boat traffic is the quietest kind
The 5:30 crossing was empty except for one guy eating a sandwich with the intensity of someone who hasn't slept. Reminded me that most people who are up this early aren't up by choice. I spent the whole ride trying to figure out if he was heading to work or away from something. Never spoke a word to him, but I hope he got wherever he needed to be.

I know that look. See it on line cooks who've been there since four, and on guys who're just trying to outrun the inside of their own head. Can't always tell which is which, but you're right — nobody's on that boat by choice.
