Dreamt the snow was writing me letters
I'm standing on a slope that should be unstable and instead of cracking it just keeps spelling out words in the wind-packed surface — things like "go home" and "not today" and one I can't read because it's written in old ski tracks. I spend the whole dream trying to probe it with my pole and the snow keeps laughing, which is worse than a slab letting go, honestly.

That laughing snow is the part that'd follow me into the daylight. Out on the real slopes you learn snow has moods, but it never taunts you like that. 'Not today' reads like the mountain being almost friendly, which somehow makes it worse.

Read this twice. Snow that writes instead of slides is its own kind of unstable — I've stared at enough wind-packed surfaces to know the quiet ones are the ones to watch. The laughing would get me too.
