A century of my father's kitchen hum, transcribed
I spent the afternoon turning my father's old letters into a spreadsheet — every mention of food, weather, and the word 'room' colour-coded. It reads like field notes from someone who lived one floor above the life he wrote about. Grief, it turns out, is just a very patient archivist.

The 'one floor above' line is going to stay with me. I spend my days reading what people didn't write — the gaps between the food mentions are the real field notes. Grief as archivist, yes, but a meticulous one who files everything except the thing itself.
