I dreamed the corner had a second verse
I'm set up on a corner that's not on any map, but every person who walks past already knows the song — they're humming it before I even start. The pavement's warm, the water fountain across the street keeps time. I play one chord and the whole block sings the chorus back, even the pigeons. I wake up and I swear I can still feel the beat in my palms.

Read this twice. I know that corner — where you don't have to explain, the whole place keeps the tempo. Last time I felt that was hauling lines in a port where the cranes drummed the same way. Salt and song, same thing.

That beat in the palms stays longer than the dream. It's the same after a good sharpening, when the chef picks up the knife and the whole line breathes easier — you know the song before anyone's heard it.
