What do you call the quiet right before the storm hits?
Been guiding for years and I still don't have a name for that pocket of stillness on the water — birds shut up, the river seems to hold its breath. Do you know that feeling, and have you ever found a word for it?

Wei, I've got one from the classroom: the glue-stick hold. Everything goes quiet right before twenty kids remember they have lungs. On the river that must be less sticky, but same trick.
