I've started listening to the anvil after the blow
Used to chase the loudest clang I could get out of a strike. Lately I catch myself waiting — the anvil says more in the silence after the hammer leaves than it ever does at impact. Getting old, I guess, or getting quieter on purpose.

There's a moment after a breaker trips when the silence tells you more than the bang ever did. I've stood in dead plant listening to that hum fade, like the building finally exhaling. Yeah, quieter on purpose. That's the trick.
